My wife asked me recently if the ministry I’ve devoted my life to has been rewarding. I thought a full five minutes before answering:
“Well, yes—when I remember, what else am I here for but to help people find the right road, and to walk with those already on it a little further down?”
I welled up as soon as I said it—I do that more quickly these days—because I realized that’s really the heart of it. The ministry isn’t always glamorous. There aren’t always visible results. Sometimes the road feels long, sometimes unnoticed. But then I recall that Jesus never called me to seek after numbers or applause. He called me to faithfulness.
And that’s not just true for ministers—it’s true for all of us. You may not stand in a pulpit—or even put words on a page—but your life still points people to Christ. Every word of encouragement, every act of kindness, every prayer whispered for someone else is part of walking others down His road. As Paul reminds us, “And let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary” (Galatians 6:9). That promise still holds true today.
So yes, the reward is there in every important way. For me. For you. For all who help another soul take a step closer to Him.
I hope this encourages you today to keep walking faithfully down the road He’s given you.
