I had a dream when I was a boy that I found a million dollars under a big rock while walking to school. I decided to leave it there until I returned home later that day. (Don’t judge me; it was a dream!) After school, I rushed back the way I had come, but couldn’t find the rock. I woke up and spent the next thirty years looking for it.
Not long after I became a Christian, I remembered back to my childhood dream and understood for the first time that the dream was a portent—the rock was Jesus and the treasure inside was His life, given on the cross to redeem mine.
I would have done well to come to Jesus sooner, instead of chasing the world so vainly far into adulthood. Just the same, by the grace of God, I eventually found my way to my Rock, and I came to learn firsthand the meaning of the words of the apostle Peter: “Now to you who believe, this stone is precious” (1 Pet 2:7). Yes Lord, You are.
I hope this encourages you to praise Jesus today.
