“If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink” (John 7:37).

“I love you,” God tells me, tells me forever.
“But if you knew the things I’ve done, the things I’ve said, the things I’ve thought.”
“Yes, I know all about them son, and I love you more than you can imagine, always have, always will.”

John Piper, in The Pleasures of God, writes, “A mountain spring is self-replenishing. It constantly overflows and supplies others. But a watering trough needs to be filled with a pump or bucket brigade. [Now] if you want to glorify the worth of a watering trough you work hard to keep it full and useful. But if you want to glorify the worth of a spring you do it by getting down on your hands and knees and drinking to your heart’s satisfaction, until you have the refreshment and strength to go back down in the valley and tell people what you’ve found.”

And what did I find? I found God, the wellspring of love. The one of Whom the Scriptures say, “Nor is He served by human hands, as though He needed anything, since He Himself gives to all people life and breath and all things” (Acts 17:25).

I believe the greatest growth challenge I have had in my years of Christian life is learning to receive God’s love for me, the unmerited yet overflowing love He gives continuously. And the greatest epiphany of recent days—certainly the most freeing—is that the one thing I have to offer Him is my thirst.”

“I love you,” God tells me, and never stops.
And I drink.

I hope this encourages you to drink deeply of God’s love today.
