After a tough day of being ensnarled in rush-hour traffic, there’s nothing like settling into a favorite chair and immersing your soul in a good book. A few weeks ago, I found solace in an old favorite, The Evidential Power of Beauty by Thomas Dubay. The premise of the book is that beauty in all its variety bears witness to the matchless imagination of the Creator of the universe.

My thoughts on this topic were further stirred several days later while reading a commentary by respected author and teacher, Dr. Ken Boa. It contained the following insightful observation: “We have been created and redeemed for the eternal ecstasy of interpersonal immersion in the triune Godhead beholding infinite beauty face-to-face.” Beholding infinite beauty–now that is a rousing image! We understand that God is all-knowing, all-powerful, and all-loving (that is to say, omniscient, omnipotent, and omnibenevolent); but has it ever occurred to you that He is all-beautiful (omnibeauteous)? It hadn’t occurred to me. But it sure rings true. And if omnibeauteous isn’t a word, it should be!

So here I sit many weeks later, in my favorite chair again, enjoying the growing realization that God’s beauty is as innate as is His love. He is “infinite beauty.” And I find myself contemplating a new and pleasing image as I read 1 Corinthians 13:12: “For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face…” And when we do, God’s face will continuously be the most beautiful sight we ever behold.

I hope this encourages you to acclaim the beauty of God today.
